Weight Loss
One of the most crucial yet challenging aspects of health is achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Often times diet and exercise alone are insufficient in meeting these goals.

During your first visit, your provider will review your medical history and health goals. Often, lab work is required, and they’ll send an order to your preferred lab. Once your results are available, your provider will review them with you and discuss treatment options.
SEMAGLUTIDE
What to know about semaglutide?
In simple terms, Semaglutide, (Name brand Wegovy or Ozempic) improve insulin resistance. This allows calories and fat to be burned, while improving energy. Semaglutide is peptide that works by mimicking the hormone called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), which targets an area of the brain that regulates appetite and food intake. By controlling blood sugar spikes and lowering blood sugar, as well as reducing appetite and cravings energy levels are more consistent. Semaglutide is administered by a subcutaneous injection, commonly dosed once weekly. Dosing may be increased after one month if needed.
It was originally prescribed for type 2 diabetics but was found to have improvement in weight loss – Recently name branded Ozempic has been approved for weight loss.
What are the side effects
The most commonly reported side effect is weight loss. However, some have reported nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, or, constipation. The rarest risks of serious effects increases in patients with hypoglycemia, kidney problems, and risk of allergic reactions.
Who can’t take this medication?
Currently this medications cannot be taken by those with Type 1 diabetics (insulin dependent diabetics) those with personal history or family history of medullary thyroid CA, or multiple endocrine neoplasia. Also those who are currently pregnant or breast feeding.
This medication is ideal for those who are in good health with no kidney or liver issues who wish to lose weight. The medication is not insulin and should not be used if you have type 1 diabetes or develop diabetic ketoacidosis. My name is Frances Burrier, and I am a family nurse practitioner with dual certification in Psychiatric mental health. I am a lifelong Connecticut resident and started my own practice in Newington Connecticut in 2022.
I have over fourteen years of health care experience first as an oncology nurse at Smilow cancer hospital for several years. After I completed my doctorate of nursing at Quinnipiac in 2016, I transitioned to the role of nurse practitioner.
I have over six years of practice as a primary care provider. My first position was at a federally qualified health center, I then transitioned to geriatrics. I have experience providing care in multitude of settings including clinics, home care, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.
In 2021 I completed my psychiatric mental health certification at University of Saint Joseph
I practice in a patient centered and holistic approach where we work as a team to develop a plan of care. I pride myself on being easy to talk to. I provide a non-judgmental, open and honest style of communication where people feel comfortable.
I currently offer late afternoon and evening hours.
